The people of New York City have been on quite the roller coaster ride this year as far as the weather goes. This winter was particularly rough – snow two or three times a week for several weeks, weather in the teens, twenties, sometimes thirties if we were lucky. Traversing actual glaciers on the sidewalks of Brooklyn whilst commuting to work (those suckers didn’t melt for WEEKS).

I particularly remember one nasty commute where it snowed/rained all night and melted enough to leave 10-foot+ diameter lakes in some neighborhoods of Manhattan. Some of us cockier folk with waterproof snow boots (ahem, me..) would take to leaping over and/or walking through the murky black puddles only to find they were much deeper than expected and our boots had finally sprung a small leak in the toes. A little disappointing, yes… But on a positive note, I found myself smiling, sometimes laughing and even cheering at some of the acrobatics I saw on that day and a few others by those who were not as practical with their choice in footwear. Although quite uncomfortable, those commutes proved to be highly entertaining. Take that, Winter!

Creeping into March we thought it was warm when it was in the high thirties or even the forties. I was ecstatic if I saw it was going to be in the fifties – seriously? We got a few days that shot up into the sixties and people were prematurely out in their shorts. Too much too soon! April rolls around and wouldn’t you know, we are seeing some consistently nice weather – high fifties, even sixties and geez it was 72 degrees on my birthday! And then back to 36?!? What’s that??!

The weather’s still a little squirrely (no pun intended), but I think spring has officially sprung. And with spring comes spring cleaning and switching out of the spring/summer and fall/winter wardrobe! That means you Manhattan people need to make a trip to your storage units and do the dreaded deed… Why don’t you treat yourself after this crappy winter and enlist your favorite OCD friend to give you a hand? Yes, that’s me. I’m here for you. Let’s get it done.
